$75,000 straight cash bond reduced to ROR!!!!

This past week I represented a client that was facing 15 serious charges at his preliminary hearing. 8 of those 15 charges were felonies. We will call this client "Tom." Tom's bond was $75,000.00 straight as a result of the serious nature of the pending charges. Basically, this meant that Tom's family would need to pay $75,000.00 to get Tom released from jail. I met with Tom's family and with Tom prior to the preliminary hearing so that we could discuss our strategy and goals that we wanted to accomplish at the preliminary hearing. The first priority was to get the bond reduced. Given the nature of the charges, I knew that this would be difficult because even if I got the bond cut in half Tom's family would have had to come up with $37,500.00 which is still a significant amount of money. Once I arrived at court I immediately began speaking with the Assistant District Attorney assigned to Tom's case. In addition, I began negotiating with the Detectives on the case. The negotiations were tense given the fact there were multiple victims on this case and the emotions were running very high. After nearly 3 hours of negotiating we were successful and I got Tom's bond reduced to an ROR (with conditions). An ROR bond means that Tom is able to leave the custody of the jail without paying any money whatsoever. Tom did not have to pay one cent to get out of jail. The bond was reduced from a staggering $75,000.00 straight to an ROR (release on your recognizance) bond.Tom was released to his loving family and their tears of joy were uncontrollable. Tom came to court that morning in the custody of the constables with shackles on his wrists and shackles on his ankles. After intense negotiations, Tom walked out of the court house without any shackles holding his mother's hand and got into his families car and drove back to his home. I am always thrilled when I sit down with a client and we map out a case strategy and then that strategy is worked to perfection!
